As always, highlight to read spoilers, and all fanfic recommendations are based purely on my own shipping preferences. Feel free to add anything I may have missed.
The show starts with four very different girls attending a private school in New York. Claire, Kate, Rachel and Rose wake up uneasy and worried because they cannot remember what happened to them the previous night. They don’t pay much attention to this, though, because fellow student and friend, Lise, has just turned up dead – apparently having committed suicide.
The girls dismiss their memory loss as nothing much – until that night, when they are each compelled to follow some strange red butterflies that only they can see, and end up gathering together at Central Park – to be told by a mysterious woman named Lula, and her partner JC, that they are already dead, and must now fight monsters if they ever wish to return to their old lives.
My thoughts, let me show you them
The plot was the main reason I even started watching this show, with the mystery about the four girls and their lives – and supposed deaths – their rebirths, and their monster fighting missions taking centre stage and making for interesing viewing.
I was very disappointed by the denouement, though, there was no real explanation for why anything happened, and I felt very cheated by the ending. Coming to the characters themselves, I liked Claire, Kate and Rachel, their reactions and motivations seemed well thought up. Rose, however, annoyed the hell out of me, with her constant OHNOES WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIEEEEE SAVE ME reactions. Rachel was pretty freaked out by everything, as well, but Rose took it to a whole another level. The shock/Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder reaction was alright for the first few fights, but her behaving like a coward every single fight just made me wish Rachel would bash her head in. Grr.
The artwork is very good, though. As is the soundtrack.

Why You Should Watch It
Eh, maybe if you don’t mind not quite explained plotlines and whiny girls and fantasy, all rolled into one. Honestly, the denouement and Rose annoyed me enough to write this one off. On the pluses, the art is pretty good.
While I would have liked to see Hevre/Lise or even Hevre/Kate (my enemy ship thing again) I did like Claire and her band boyfriend, as well. But not enough to go looking for fic on them, though. :P
