Profundity in Anime
These lines particularly speak to me at the moment. Paraphrased:
“The earth turns on a tilted axis, just doing the best it can.”
– Hohenheim of Light, Fullmetal Alchemist
“That’s why people hesitate. In front of all the choices, one could lose hope and try to run away, because no excuse could be used. No matter how dangerous the long journey in life was, or how one admits to being dealt the short end of the stick, everything was the result of one’s own choices, it was a road chosen by oneself. Even if this path is hard, and there’s no chance of changing past choices, one cannot place the blame on other people. No matter how angry or frustrated one was, one would be alone on that path, with no one to replace you.”
– Aisaka Taiga, Toradora
“Even if you’re not by my side right now, I will leap through space and time and always be by your side. These feelings will never change.”
– Takasu Ryuuji, Toradora
TV Thoughts: Castle
Re: Castle S3: One Life To Life
While I am enjoying the new season – I seem to automatically enjoy anything with Nathan Fillion – I dislike this episode’s characterisation of shippers as deranged people who would literally ‘kill for our ship’.
This characterisation of fans and shippers as obsessive people who cannot function normally isn’t really a new portrayal, actually, but it just…jars, especially when my favourite shows do it. Supernatural did it in Season 5, too, although I think they were aiming more for affectionate snark. It was just a little irritating to have all fans seem to be based on the Misery mould left by Stephen King.
